Brief CV: Kees van Hee
Born in 1946 (The Hague). Studied Mathematics, Physics, and Economics in Leiden. Subsequently worked in the field of computer science in Leiden for nearly three years. Earned a PhD in Stochastic Decision Science under the supervision of Jaap Wessels at TU/e. Spent six years as a director/consultant at the consultancy firm AKB in Rotterdam, developing decision support systems, including for logistics service providers. Appointed Professor of Computer Science at TU/e in 1984; served as a part-time professor from 1994 to 2004. Worked as a director/consultant at Bakkenist Management Consultants (1994–1999) and as a partner and practice leader for consultancy at Deloitte (1999–2004). Provided consultancy services to financial service providers, focusing on areas such as business process management and e-business. Served as Dean of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science from 2004 to 2008. Directed the designer training programs for the three Dutch technical universities (3TU) from 2007 to 2012. Following his retirement in 2011, co-founded a robotics company and remained active as a supervisory board member.
Brief CV: Jacob Wijngaard
Born in 1944 (Friesland). Studied Mathematics and Economics at VU Amsterdam. Earned a PhD in Stochastic Decision Theory under the supervision of Jaap Wessels at TU/e. Worked at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management Science there; appointed Professor of Operations Research in 1982. Moved to the Faculty of Management and Organization at the University of Groningen (RuG) in 1991 as Professor of Operations Management. Served as Dean of the faculty from 1996 to 2001. Retired in 2009. That was when I became interested in supply chain finance and finance in general—partly due to the financial crisis. I spent several years working as a researcher at STRO, the Dutch organization dedicated to developing and promoting local currencies. My guiding principle has always been to use models to simplify things.
